Updated Policy on the use of Open Source Software within UK Government The Government's revised Open Source Software (OSS) Policy published today is the culmination of a lengthy consultation process with all stakeholders including Government, industry and academia.
Intellect fully participated in the consultation process and is pleased to see that the policy encourages the consideration of OSS solutions, proprietary solutions, or a mixture of both on a case-by-case basis with value for money as the main criterion for selection.
Intellect welcomes the emphasis on the exploitation of results from Government funded research and development for the good of the UK economy and most importantly, the requirement for both Government and the supplier to address exploitation at the start of a project.
The Government has also identified, and will be taking forward, a number of actions to implement this policy. Intellect looks forward to participating in related consultations. The Open Source Software Policy
