Something to Shout About – UK Electronic Design and Innovation Gets a Voice
Intellect has today taken a step further towards its goal of providing a single-voice for the UK electronic design and innovation sector as it announces the launch of its new Electronic Design and Innovation Group, created to assist the industry as it strives to maintain and grow its global competitiveness. To date, no single trade body has performed this task. Peter Maguire, Intellect’s Director of Components and Manufacturing said, ”Intellect hopes that this new group will become a clear focal point on the issue of electronic design and innovation. This is critical as innovation is of course, the UK’s Unique Selling Point, and as global market pressure increases, is fast becoming a critical enabler to keeping UK plc ahead of its competition.” It is anticipated that the group will draw a membership of Hardware and Software companies, OEM's internal design teams, Component suppliers, Embedded software suppliers, Design Houses both Component and Product/Systems and Fabless/Chipless chip companies. Issues addressed by the group will include, promotion of best practice, encouragement of technology transfer and articulation of new ideas to government particularly on regulations/legislation. In addition marriage brokering for research and commercial opportunities, collaboration with university research/teaching establishments and the promotion of design for the environment and sustainability. The Group will also undertake a programme of work with the aim of establishing an Industry Code of Best Practice, the first of its kind in the UK.
