IT industry issues from Intellect - read our blog...
Convergence between the telecoms, IT, consumer electronics, broadcasting and creative content sectors has long been talked about but is now starting to have a real impact in the UK. It is therefore vital that Intellect’s members can influence the regulatory and policy framework that will support this growing sector, understand how the sector is evolving and are in a strong position to capitalise on the opportunities that will arise.
Intellect's convergence programme brings together industry representatives from across the converging value chain. Companies and service providers from the IT, broadband, telecoms, consumer electronics, broadcasting, content sectors all contributed to the “Capitalising on Convergence” report which has set an agenda for action based on assessment of the UK’s progress on a number of the key components of convergence.
Convergence is becoming a ubiquitous theme across many of the sectors Intellect represents and as such it is important that our ongoing work, for example on spectrum related issues, next generation networks and digital switchover, is also considered in the context of the converging marketplace. Importantly, we will continue to engage the broadcast, creative content and retail sectors which will help build a clearer picture of the new value chain.
Working closely with Government and Ofcom to bring about a regulatory and policy framework that supports growth in the UK we will also focus on our European and global competitiveness and the impact of policy such as the EU i2010 strategy.
