SRO/SRIE Initiative
A key factor in the success of business change projects and programmes is clear, active and visible leadership.
‘Successful IT: Modernising Government in Action', a Cabinet Office report published in 2000, introduced the role of the Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) as a leader bringing clear strategic direction to the project or programme and focusing on the delivery of business benefits.
Industry also recognises the value of good leadership. Just as the SRO has brought strong leadership and direction to the business side, the industry equivalent role of Senior Responsible Industry Executive (SRIE) has provided similar strategic direction and leadership within industry, ensuring that suppliers are aligned with the customer’s business objectives and that project resources are used accordingly.
SRIEs monitor project progress through their own organisations and with the SRO counterparts. If an SRO has concerns about aspects of the development of the project or if problems arise, they have an immediate opportunity to raise their concerns with a senior figure within the supplier organisation who has the authority to address those issues and vice versa.
