Focus of the Public Sector Procurement

By reducing procurement timescales and standardising paperwork, Intellect estimates that the public sector could save £200m per year just on procurement of complex ICT-enabled change projects. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.  Most importantly, better procurement leads to better, more efficient delivery of projects and programmes.

The group's current objective is to work with the UK government to achieve a reduction of 25% in procurement costs over the next 3 years.  This includes the following goals:

  • Achieve an average OJEU procurement time of 52 weeks by April 2012 and 40 weeks by April 2014 without losing quality
  • Finalise agreement on slimmer, standard contract terms and conditions and guidance
  • Establish a programme to achieve procurement paperwork standardisation throughout the UK public sector within 3 years
  • Establish an effective procurement vehicle to support the Government’s ICT Strategy and new, utility services.
