Intellect Government Group Reception 2011

Andrew Hudson (Managing Director, Public Services and Growth Directorate, HM Treasury) gave a keynote address at our annual Government Group reception.  His presentation was followed by an address from Sally Howes (Director of IT and Systems Analysis, National Audit Office).

Who's spoke?

Andrew HudsonAndrew Hudson was appointed Managing Director, Public Services and Growth, at the Treasury in March 2009.

He spent much of the first part of his career in the 1980s and 1990s in the Treasury, culminating in roles as Press Secretary to the Chancellor (1992-96) and Head of the Health Team (1996-99).

In 1999, he moved to local government, to work for Essex County Council, first as Assistant Chief Executive and latterly as Deputy Chief Executive (Finance and Performance).

In 2004, he became Chief Executive of the Valuation Office Agency, responsible for valuations for council tax and business rates and for other valuation work within the public sector.

Sally Howes is director of IT and systems analysis at the National Audit Office.

What was talked about?

Andrew outlined the reforms that the Government is introducing to improve the delivery of public services and also his views on the role of the technology industry in driving up productivity across the economy.

Sally gave an overview of the NAO's review of public sector ICT, the role she expects technology to play in the reform of public services and what this means for technology companies.
