Outsourcing to Emerging Locations: Bangladesh, a surprising alternative!

Friday 17 June 2011, Intellect Conference Suite, London WC1

We would like to invite you to a half day Special Outsourcing event in London on Friday 17 June 2011, in conjunction with the International Trade Centre.

Emerging markets are becoming more and more important in providing cost effective outsourcing services; understanding what they can deliver is important when selecting alternatives to the larger outsourcing locations. Two experts spoke on the subject and introduced delegates to Bangladesh as an emerging outsourcing location. Recently Bangladesh was added to Gartner's 30 Leading Locations for Offshore Services 2010-2011 and was rated "very good on costs".

Andrew Mold, Senior Economist, Head of the Structural Analysis and Competitiveness Unit, from the OECD spoke about the issues relating to outsourcing, especially to emerging countries.

Dr Richard Sykes, Independent Strategic Advisor and Columnist, a well known figure in the outsourcing arena and with specific knowledge of offshoring with Asia, spoke about how Bangladesh offers a new opportunity for globally focused UK SME tech enterprises access highly cost competitive technical resource and to build business partnerships with entrepreneurial and globally ambitious tech SMEs. This provided an interesting discussion on outsourcing and set the scene for introducing Bangladesh as a potential outsourcing centre. Additionally there were examples of projects completed by some of the Bangladeshi companies.

Outsourcing to Emerging Markets
Outsourcing of ITO and BPO services continues to grow, with the UK being one of the largest markets in Europe estimated at some £20 billion.  The competition for solid offshore locations grows, as does the number of countries providing these services.

What did you miss

Changing opportunities mean people responsible for outsourcing in client organisations should have a keen awareness of market changes and new opportunities, where to get their work completed to high quality standards and with the most competitive direct and indirect costs.  With outsourcing projects becoming smaller, more specific and across shorter timeframes, focusing on the use of smaller, less complex suppliers is important.  Andrew Mold and Richard Sykes were able to provide some of the insights, with Bangladesh being a good example of a growing outsourcing location.

At the event were a number of Bangladeshi companies who provide ITO and BPO services and there was the opportunity to meet and discuss with them what you typically look for in a supplier and how they might fit into this.
