Public Sector | Local Public Service Supplier Forum |
Technology plays an important function in local government: it is a key enabler to increase efficiency, reduce operational costs, and improve the quality of services to citizens. With the financial pressures placed on local authorities technology will continue to be a pivotal tool to drive improvements in service delivery, rationalise services and streamlines processes.
At a glance
The forum, which is jointly run by Intellect and Socitm, has grown out of what was the Local Government Supplier Forum which was established in April 2004. The aim was, and still is, specifically to foster closer working, better understanding and mature relationships between the public service delivery community (specifically local government and third sector,) and industry suppliers operating in the marketplace. Member companies range in size from large multinationals to niche consultancies.
The group raises issues from across the sector ranging from the governance and structure of local government and personalisation of services to the impact of the green agenda on local government and identifies areas of common concern to both Intellect and Socitm members. A management committee is responsible for taking forward the work of the forum.

Focus of the Local Public Service Supplier Forum
- identify areas of common interest between the Local Government community and the supplier community, e.g. educational events, joint approaches to particular policy areas, etc.
- agree how work on particular issues can be taken forward in a practical way
- act as a channel for ideas and issues from the different constituencies involved, feeding these to bodies such as the Socitm National Council
