Local Growth Through BroadbandLocal Growth Through Broadband

Wednesday 23 November 2011, The Imagination Gallery, WC1E

It has been an exciting time for broadband in the UK. The government's broadband strategy is clearly stated. £530m of public money is being invested to deliver superfast broadband to 90% of all homes, while ensuring everyone has access to at least 2 Mbps; the ambition is to have the best broadband in Europe by 2015.

Furthermore now that funding allocations for each county have been announced and procurement processes are kick-starting we are starting to see the broadband roll-out programme becoming a reality.

As such we were delighted to welcome Caroline Spelman MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to address the conference on the synergies between improved broadband connectivity and local and rural growth.

Who attended?

 Who attended?

Anyone with an interest in broadband roll-out and who wanted to harness the benefits of improved connectivity.  This event focused on a particular interest to local authority representatives looking to roll out local broadband plans, industry players offering solutions in the broadband market and service providers seeking to expand take-up of their applications throughout the UK.

What did I miss?

Why did I miss?

With speakers spanning the public and private sector, this event brought local authority representatives, industry leaders and policy makers together to discuss and debate:

  • Ministerial perspectives and local views on the aspirations for improving local growth and how increased connectivity can play its part in achieving these outcomes
  • the role that the private sector can play in generating growth in areas of good and improving levels of connectivity
  • good practice from local leaders on how they have realised or intend to capitalise on the benefits of better broadband
  • how industry and the public sector can work together to take this forward in practice
