policyBeing heard is crucial to influencing policy. Intellect members are able to create the right policy framework for business growth and prosperity via policy analysis and formulation, engaging in consultations, consensus building and lobbying.

These contributions:

  • advocate public policy that advances the growth and development of our industry
  • strengthen members’ policy agendas
  • provide a voice for the technology industry

Whether you’ll get to work closely with the government, get involved in consultations with local authorities or regulatory bodies, or take part in a number of groups and forums, having a collective voice to do this is better than a single one.

So, what are the objectives of our policy agenda?

  • to assess and analyse the impact of issues affecting members
  • to make views of members available to policy makers
  • to publish information as a resource for members and policy makers

Some examples of how Intellect membership has helped shape markets:

  • Establishment of Intellect Ofcom Forum. Intellect’s influence within Ofcom has grown significantly since the Forum’s creation, which was initiated due to the on-going changes that the industry has had a hard time keeping up with.
  • The Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG), is the UK government’s leading advisory group on broadband. BSG continues to address a wide agenda over the past year:
    • convergence of broadcasting, telecoms and technology
    • Good Practice Principles on Audiovisual Content Information, endorsed by leading industry players. These principles give a commitment to provide information about content over a range of media platforms, in a way that is easy to understand.
    • facilitating the development of the principles that aim to empower consumers to make safe and informed choices about the content that they and their families consume in a fast-moving media age. These principles stem from the work BSG led in influencing the development of the Audiovisual Services Media Directive.

Intellect champions technology-led growth to build a globally competitive, innovative and sustainable UK economy.
